POETRY: "A FEMALE ICARUS, HIS VICTIM"

"A FEMALE ICARUS, HIS VICTIM" (*)

The world-- enormously huge

And she-- awfully small,
Small enough
To fit in two fists
But not so much
To stay limited
Within his reach.

She was able

She was fierce
She gathered her courage
And scattering
Her feathers
On the way up
She aimed at Pluto's lands.

But now

Jupiter
Spares kisses
On her back
Of fallen stars.

~A

(*) The poem was written having in mind female victims of domestic violence and their need to dream again. However, it is not safe to assume that this persona was indeed liberated by her demon.
